Thank you for picking up Drink: Your Guide to the Kansas City Bar Scene. You are now armed with the ultimate drinking passport: flick through these pages and you’ll find everything from dive bars to wine bars, gay bars to sports bars, or sports bars that are gay bars!

This little book has been kicking around the city for just over a year now and we’ve had a lot of fun doing the kicking. From the response we get, it sounds like the good people of this city like having it around too.

Kansas City is very much embryonic in its bar scene growth: we’ve got the pulse and faint heart beat, but the limbs are not quite developed and we are a long way from being a fully- grown entertainment destination. But that’s what is exciting about our baby here. There is always some new place springing up as another old favorite dies: like going to the christening of Blonde and the eminent funeral of Westport Flea Market. We may sadly miss one and detest the other depending on our taste, but we have to realize that’s the price of progress: Darwin and his proverbial “Survival of the Fittest,” at least if you are in Missouri, because it’s not on the curriculum across the State Line.
